Other Projects

Lilongwe City Rehabilitation of Selected Roads
The objective of the project was to undertake backlog maintenance on priotized selected paved roads in Lilongwe city by adopting appropriate maintenance interventions. Funded by the European Development Fund (EDF) the project covered a total of 42 km. The road works were done by Cilcon/SR Nicholas joint venture and supervised by RA. The works were completed in March 2008.

Paul Kagame Road – Lilongwe Urban road
Covering a distance of 5 km part of this road is a 4 – lane road. This is the first 4 lane road in the city of Lilongwe and has eased traffic congestion on M1 from Blantyre which passes in Lilongwe to Mzuzu. This was a single lane narrow road and the works involved widening and addition of extra lanes.
The project was financed by a loan from World Bank. The works were completed in 2006.

Dedza town-Mozambique Boarder
A very busy road, this 2km stretch, is located in the Central region of the country, and conveniently connects Malawi to the Mozambique Boarder. There is a lot of trade going on between Malawi and its surrounding countries like Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa. This road therefore provides the much needed link to the boarder and connection to the other central districts of Malawi. The road is extremely useful as it has become economical for Malawi’s imports and exports, cross-boarder traders and transporters as it presents a short cut to the Malawi/Mozambique Boarder and to the other trading countries. The project was finance by the Government of Malawi.

Mponela – Ntchisi (T350)
Done by Mota-Engil Malawi and funded by Malawi Government, the project involved upgrading from earth surface to bitumen standard and covers a distance of 33.1km. It is one of the projects which was fully funded by the government of Malawi. The road from Ntchisi connects to the M1 at Mponela. Mponela and Ntchisi are some of the districts that have higher agricultural activities and the access to the markets through M1 has been made easy.

Kamphata – Nkhoma
Another project funded wholly funded by the Government of Malawi. The road connects to M1 at Nkhoma trading centre in Lilongwe. Apart from providing access to the M1 road to the communities, the road is also very useful as it provides access to one on the best mission hospitals in Lilongwe – the Nkhoma Mission Hospital.

Mzimba Spur
Funded by Malawi Government, this project involved resealing of the pavement.
