The Malawi Gov­ern­ment is imple­ment­ing the Multi­na­tion­al Nacala Road Cor­ri­dor Devel­op­ment Project- Phase Vwith financ­ing from the African Devel­op­ment Bank (AfDB) and the Euro­pean Union (EU). The project which is being imple­ment­ed by the Roads Author­i­ty (RA) will reha­bil­i­tate 55km of Nsipe-Chin­geni Liwonde Project.

The project con­trac­tor is Jiangxi Con­struc­tion Group and the site has recent­ly be hand­ed to him.

The devel­op­ment objec­tive of the project is to con­tribute to region­al inte­gra­tion and trade facil­i­ta­tion for Malawi, Mozam­bique, and Zam­bia. Specif­i­cal­ly, the project will con­tribute to the reduc­tion of trans­porta­tion costs along the Nacala Road Cor­ri­dor, which is expect­ed to enhance Malawi’s trade competitiveness.

The total project cost is UA 45.289 mil­lion out of which the Bank will con­tribute UA 26.6 mil­lion (59%), the EU will con­tribute UA 15.121 mil­lion (33%), and the GoM will con­tribute 3.568 mil­lion (8%).
